What is the origin of the name Isham?

My husband's last name is Isham and it gets mispronounced often. Its not that big of a deal, but it is rare to have someone pronounce it properly. I was just wondering what the origin of the name was.

Reply:It is an English name from Northamptonshire. It is supposed to be from the ara of the Isis river. In the UK it is pronounced I-Sham. That is Eye-sham.
