Does anyone know the origin of the name Elisandra?

I really like the name, but I'd like to know where it comes from and possible meanings.

Does anyone know the origin of the name Elisandra?
I personally like "Alessandra", a gorgeous name either way :] - It's a derivative of the name "Alexandra" or "Sandra" - meaning defender of mankind - lovely name
Reply:There isn't one. It's not a real name, it's a respelling of a real name, Alessandra (ahl-e-SAHN-drah) which is the Italian female form of Alexander:

ALEXANDER

Gender: Masculine

Usage: English, German, Dutch, Hungarian, Slovak

Pronounced: al-eg-ZAN-dur (English), ah-lek-SAHN-der (German), ah-luk-SAHN-dur (Dutch) [key]

From the Greek name Αλεξανδρος (Alexandros), which meant "defending men" from Greek αλεξω (alexo) "to defend, help" and ανηρ (aner) "man" (genitive ανδρος).

This name was most famously borne by Alexander the Great, King of Macedon. In the 4th century BC he built a huge empire out of Greece, Egypt, Persia, and parts of India. The name was later used by emperors of Russia, kings of Scotland and Yugoslavia, and eight popes. Another notable bearer was Sir Alexander MacKenzie, an explorer of the north and west of Canada in the 18th century.

Alessandra is a beautiful name and I much prefer it over Elisandra.
Reply:I think it's Phillipeans but I'm not sure because my friend's name is Allesandra and she is from the Pillipeans!!
