What is the Origin Of the Female Name Mikayla?

becuase i keep looking at different resources and i cant find a straight answer. I think it migh be Americian but im not sure.

What is the Origin Of the Female Name Mikayla?
The name Mikayla is a variant of Michaela, which is the feminine form of Michael. The name Michael is Hebrew name meaning 'who resembles God'. In the bible and other religious texts, Michael is "identified as captain of God's army, humanity's intercessor with the divine, and an eternal recorder who tracks our deeds and misdeeds in a great heavenly book. He is often depicted carrying a flaming sword, and sometimes guarding the gates of Paradise."

I think it is wrong to classify Mikayla as being of American origin - it's more accurate to say that this spelling of the name is of modern English origin. Often baby naming websites say a name is of American origin if it is a creatively spelt name or if a combination of two other names. I find this a bit odd, because there are plenty of parents in other English speaking countries that spell names creatively and use alternate spellings.

Not that I think Mikayla is really that much of a creative spelling. It's simply spelt the way the name is said. On the other hand, Michaela looks like it's pronounced mish-ay-ell-a to me. I think that many parents might think the same, especially since the spelling Mikayla is much more popular than the Michaela spelling. At the moment Mikayla is ranked at #182 in popularity, while Michaela is ranked at #343.
