What was the origin of the Ku Kux Klan name?

I was discussing this with an acolyte. She maintained that it is kuklus, the Greek for circle. I always thought it was to do with cocking a Winchester. Most of the rednecks I have come across don't have that good a grasp of classical Greek, but just about know which end of a gun goes bang. Your thoughts. If you think that 'wife' and 'sister' are synonyms I would like to hear your views.

What was the origin of the Ku Kux Klan name?
The Greek for circle is kuklos - pronounced "keek-loss" there is no record of the ku klux klan being spoke/spelt any other way so I should think it unlikely. Perhaps Klux is the plural of cluck.
Reply:It was definitly Kuklos clan. Kuklos is greek for circle, as your friend said. It was started as a support group for civil war veterans.
Reply:Dunno.. but I know three sisters; Kaitlyn, Kathryn, and Kristen..

Reply:They are synonoms! Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest started the group but soon droped out because he did not agree with what the group was doing. "Whats a wal-mart?Aplace they sell walls?!"
Reply:Forrest Betheford Gump started them.
