What is the origin of the last name 'Yurkhanov'?

I need specifics, like one single country. It's no where to be found on the internet.

What is the origin of the last name 'Yurkhanov'?
I only found one listing in Moscow, Russia. The problem with Russian names is that the spelling is often changed or misspelled when translated into English. If you change the "kh" to a "g" with the name as Yurganov (which could be a possible spelling) there are many listings.

If spelled Yurganov, I have attached the surname information BUT it's in Russian. You can try this site for translation:

Here's the page:

In addition, the following link provides several sites for more information on Russian surnames %26amp; possible spellings:

Hope this helps you at least get started on your research. Good luck!

  1. Yurkhanova is my mother's maiden name. She is from the country Armenia. I can't find much of it on the internet either.

  2. But you should know it will be almost impossible to track down the exact origin of this name. In eastern Europe it is common to take a name and change the end of it to match the country. In the case of "Yurkhanov", I have seen it as "Yurkhanian", "Yurkhanin", "Yurkhano" and "Yurkhanovich". Each representing the same name origin, adapted to the country it is found in.

In the case of an "-ov" ending, you're best guess would probably be of Russia or Bulgarian. BUT that would only be a guess. As I said, my mother's maiden name was Yurkhanova, and she is of Armenian origin. She does, however, regretfully admit to having some Ukrainian and Bulgarian blood as well. (I said regretfully because Armenians have a thing about being pure or whatever.)

But anyway...Yeah, I don't think you're going to be able to pin this one down. Sorry :/
