Name origin?

Can someone please tell me the origin of the name 'azra' is it hebrew or islamic ??

Name origin?
AZRA

Meaning: Pure

Origin: Hebrew
Reply:Azra is a Muslim name, meaning Virgin.
Reply:Hebrew.
Reply:Arabic. That is what this German source in the link says.

But You may as well assume that it is Hebrew or Aramaic.

Names are often passed on in someones family so maybe ask around a little.

Arabic: that is not the same as Islamic. The area of Syria, Israel and e.g. Egypt had very sizable Christian and Jewish populations once. Islam is much younger %26amp; in the distant past there were more Christian than Islamic Arabs.

Arabic and Aramaic (was AFAIK the mother language of Jesus and of many Arabic Christians), Hebrew and Tigrinya are closely related Languages.

Names are old and do not change much with the languages but stay in their old form. The Semite languages drifted apart during their development ( all languages do, German and English were two dialects of the same language only 1000 years ago). Hebrew grew extinct as everyday language after the 6th century BCE %26amp; was only revived in the 19 century. So we do not really know whether it is Arabic or Aramaic or Hebrew. I assume that it was common to all.

thx for reading my post.
